Materials Drying Systems are important for a consistent process and product, improving physical and mechanical product quality, as well as ensuring the process machine performance can be fully optimized.
Hot Air Dryers are ideal for drying simple non hydroscopic Polyolefins such as PP and PE materials. Typically these materials only need the surface area of a granule to be dried. In addition the conditioning prior to processing assists with production control and quality in some applications. The drying system is a simple dryer setup, utilizing a hopper sized for the required kg/h, and the a blower and heating control.
Compressed Air / Membrane dryers are dryers that use compressed air via a desiccant cartridge or membrane to achieve low dew points for the process air before then being heated up to the target temperature for the material. Compressed air Membrane dryers operate -40°C dew point, within minutes of startup. Key benefits to this type of dryer are it is ideal for small to medium sized kg/h (2 kg/h to 100 kg/h), no moving parts, no desiccant, and minimal maintenance.
Desiccant dryers are the typical method of drying the majority of technical materials and ideally suited to medium to larger type drying requirements for a broad spectrum of technical materials. We offer two types of desiccant dryer;
Twin Tower Desiccant Systems – the dryer is sized according to the material type and required kg/h. The method of drying uses Twin Desiccant Beds – Process Air used to dry the material in the Material Hopper passes through one desiccant bed before being heated to the required process temperature. Meanwhile the second desiccant is regenerated to remove moisture from process air. As the first desiccant bed becomes saturated with moisture the dryer will automatically switchover desiccant beds to ensure a consistent dewpoint of -40°C.
Desiccant Wheel Drying System – this type of dryer works in much the same way as a twin desiccant dryer except instead of having two desiccant beds it utilizes a desiccant wheel to dry the process air. The Desiccant material is built up on a substrate, which is the rolled to form a wheel. The desiccant wheel revolves at a slow rpm continuously. The Air Processes are split 2 ways on the rotor with approximately 2/3 of the wheel drying the process air before heating the material in the drying hopper. The other 1/3 is given over to regeneration where this section of the wheel is heated to remove moisture from the desiccant plus allow or cooling of the desiccant. Benefits of the desiccant type dryers are that they can meet all process kg/h and they dry materials effectively. Additional benefits of the newer desiccant wheel system are that it can offer significant energy savings, plus reduced maintenance.
Maguire vacuum dryers are premium dryers and offers major benefits for drying technical materials. The system is a 3 step process, initially heating material, then placing it under a high vacuum where the boiling temperature of moisture in material falls to 56°C. Moisture is exhausted to the ambient from the material whist under vacuum ensuring material is ready to process quickly.
Vacuum drying systems are exceptionally fast, drying materials in 1/6th of the time a normal dryer would take. There are no parts to replace, the dryers are extremely compact and overall the dryer uses up to 80% less energy when compared to other systems. PolyMation can also offer a range of Infra Red dryers that are specifically designed for large high throughput PET systems such as PET Sheet Extrusion and large PET Preform operations. Key benefits of the Infra-Red dryer process is fast drying of PET within an hour to low ppm, plus the ability to crystallize recycled PET at the same time, removing the need for expensive crystallizers, plus then additional large drying systems.
